If you get the chance to stay in a south-facing room then by all means do so: the property's elevated position affords some wonderful views of the beach, pier and Brean Down beyond.

It's only a five-minute walk to the beach, seafront and shops from the hotel. However, that modest distance – small as it is - ensures that you don't get disturbed by any noise or late night shenanigans once the sun goes down, thus affording you a peaceful night's slumber each and every night.

Queenswood has been run by the same family since 1969, a fact that is reflected in the almost effortless way the owners make you feel so relaxed and 'at home' the moment you arrive. Proper old-school hospitality here - wonderful.

As well as having no passenger lift, Queenswood is located on a rather steep hill. Something to bear in mind if you're a vintage model and/or don't get on well with inclines.

You should be aware that the hotel affords very limited on-site guest parking if you're thinking of driving here. Unfortunately, on-street parking in the area around the hotel also seems to be in short supply much of the time too.

Put the stairs, hills and parking spaces to one side and you're left with an establishment which is really very accomplished at delivering enjoyable seaside holiday experiences.
