Positive Reviews
positive:
Welcoming staff.
Guests found front-desk staff to be friendly and accommodating. Staff were knowledgeable about the area, and eager to offer advice on restaurants and popular tourist destinations. Some guests were concerned about not being able to speak French, but found the fully bilingual staff happy to converse in English or French.
positive:
In the middle of the action.
Many guests were happy with the location of the St-Denis. Being within walking distance to Chinatown, the Plateau and downtown area of the city, as well as the cultural hub of Montréal, the Place des Arts, was a huge plus for many guests. The hotel is also close to public transportation for those wanting to explore on foot.
positive:
Great value.
This no-frills hotel is great if you are on a budget, and many guests were happy to forego chain hotel amenities for an easy-on-the-wallet overnight stay.
Negative Reviews
negative:
Street noise could keep you up.
Some guests found themselves unintentionally eavesdropping on late-night revelers. Rooms facing the street might be noisy, particularly on weekends.
negative:
Far-away parking.
You might burn more calories than you would like loading and unloading luggage. Underground parking is available around the corner from the hotel, making the walk with your suitcase a long and potentially chilly affair in the winter. Make sure to drop off your luggage before you park.
negative:
Poorly designed bathroom.
Several guests felt that the bathrooms at the St-Denis were awkwardly laid out, leaving a cramped feeling. Limited space for toiletries was a pet peeve of many guests, and they wished the bathroom quarters were a bit less tight.
