Positive Reviews
positive:
Let them eat (free) cake
While the hotel doesn't have any dining facilities, it does make available tea, coffee fruit, and of course cake, for guest to enjoy at any time of the day or night. Many guests simply loved this policy, and thought it was a kind, and delicious, gesture.
positive:
Excellent and unique location
The hotel isn't directly on the beachfront, but that didn't seem to faze guests, perhaps because it is just a couple of minutes' walk away. Guests loved being close to the beach, of course, but also commented that the hotel was in a lovely historical part of town, a combination they found quite unusual.
positive:
Terrific value for money
While the Opera may be described as something of a budget hotel, guests never really seemed to view it that way. From comments made, they tended to see it as a decent mid-range hotel in a good location that happened to offer budget room-rates.
Negative Reviews
negative:
Very small bathrooms
While this wasn't a common complaint, some guests did mention that their bathrooms were quite small, perhaps too small to be truly comfortable for them. Room size, on the other hand, was generally found to be quite adequate.
negative:
Rooms not very soundproof
Unfortunately, like many older hotels, and even some newer ones, the rooms at the Opera do not seem to be well soundproofed. Some guests speak of being able to hear peoples speaking and moving about in adjacent rooms.
negative:
No lift in the building
The hotel is only on the first floor, but to some guests with heavy luggage to haul along it certainly felt a lot higher. In any event, since there is no lift the hotel, it is not really suitable for people with mobility issues.
