Le Dimore Dei Venti is located in Scicli (24 km from Ragusa; 26,000 inhabitants, 106 meters above sea level), a small town situated in a wide valley between rocky hills, at the confluence of three valleys: that of S. Bartolomeo, S. Maria La Nova and Fiumara of Modica. The eighteenth century aspect of the city is the result of a terrible earthquake of 1693, which devastated much of Sicily. The baroque princes studied the rebuilding of city's spaces and illusionistic effects, obtained with the wise arrangement of buildings, churches and the urban plan, they created that small baroque jewel that is Scicli today. The city tour can begin from the large and spectacular "Piazza Italian", surrounded by beautiful eighteenth century buildings and dominated by the imposing limestone cliff on which stands the ancient church of St. Matthew. On one side of the square stands the eighteenth-century church, dedicated to St. Ignatius. The beautiful baroque façade is full of statues and sculptures that make it a real jewel of art. You then go to the 15th century church of St. Bartholomew, the interior of which allows you to admire a wooden crib of 1573 but renovated in later periods.
