Guests unfailingly complimented the complimentary full English breakfast, although a few picky eaters thought the presentation could be better.

Many guests were tourists to York and raved about the location of the hotel to the centre of the city and popular attractions including cultural sites as well as shops and restaurants. They also liked the proximity to local natural sites including several national parks. More than a few reviewers mentioned that they were repeat customers or intended to return.

Many guests stopped at the on-site pub for a beer or meal and many enjoyed not only the pub but the ambiance. The pub hosts regular events that are popular with the locals and guests enjoyed the added local colour if not conversations. Many guests wrote that they felt welcomed and catered to by the friendly, accommodating and detail-oriented staff.

Some guests felt the location overall needed a good, deep, spring cleaning. They mentioned issues like dusty furniture in the rooms and cluttered stairs. Some also mentioned that the tables at breakfast seemed “sticky” and not cleaned properly.

Some guests complained that the rooms did not have double glazed windows and thus their rooms were too loud from street noise. A few guests complained that events at the pub on-site kept them awake into late into the night.

A few guests felt that the hosts if not services were more focussed on providing a working pub than running the accommodations.
