Positive Reviews
positive:
The spectacular view
Although not mentioned as often as some other points, this was still the thing that seemed to most impress guests about the hotel. It is set on a hilltop with very dramatic views of the Firth of Clyde, and guests sometimes can't believe they are actually staying in a hotel with such a fantastic outlook.
positive:
Good value for money
While many guests certainly did have issues with the hotel, most conceded that they had paid a fairly low room-rate considering the fine position. By far the majority of guests who mentioned value believed they received decent value for money.
positive:
Very professional and helpful staff
Again and again guests mention that the staff were simply spectacular. A number of guests mentioned that the level of service and attention to detail, at least as far as the service was concerned, were worthy of a luxury five star establishment.
Negative Reviews
negative:
A bit rough around the edges
This was by far the most common, and most serious, complaint, Guests describe the décor throughout the hotel as dated, but worse than that it was also described as looking worn and poorly. Fabrics would be frayed or torn, wood noticeably chipped, and so on. Many believed that the hotel needed a significant refurbishment to remain viable.
negative:
Inflexible breakfast times
Some guests who had pre-booked breakfast were unhappy that the times it could be enjoyed were very limited. They didn't feel the hotel made sufficient effort to meet guests varying needs.
negative:
Problems with cleaning
Aside from the problems with the décor, quite a few guests also describe rooms and public areas that hadn't been cleaned properly, with dust, cobwebs or previous guests rubbish still present.
